What a beautiful essay Jess. I am not sure I knew we had shared history in Mt. Vernon? My dad and aunts grew up there and my grandparents and aunts remained there until some time in the late 1970s.

And to answer your question, probably quite predictably, home is anywhere where I am in a kitchen preparing food for those around me.

Ali, I touched by both of these updates. Wow, wow, wow to the first. What a (not-so-recent, yet not so long ago) world.

And absolutely. Agreed. <3

Love this. I'm missing Brooklyn something fierce right now. I feel you in a place being home without the physical home, so to speak. For me, a restaurant can be home. A street corner. A familiar walk or coffee shop or school

Julia - You said it, you said it. It's all of those places, and yeah, missing Brooklyn. Complex <3

Oooh I had no idea you grew up here! So interesting to learn about your family history :) The home cooking moments look AMAZING. And what did you think of Tofu Box? It's been on my list for a while!

Thanks for the kind words, Anisha - I hope your NY days are going fantastically and delectably, no doubt! TofuBox was a hoot - enjoyable and sweet. I definitely recommend eating there if possible, it's cozy but do-able and the staff is really nice : )

Not to be incredibly predictable, but my cats make my home. If they are there, that is home.

This was a very beautifully written post!

I know very little about New York suburbs/boroughs/whatever they are called, outside of what I read in The City We Became.

I have not watched The Gilded Age, but HBO/Max is on my shit list for cancelling the third and final season of Our Flag Means Death at the last second while it was in preproduction and thus depriving us all of the conclusion to the gay pirate love story that is only consuming my every waking thought because hello hyperfixation.

Oooo, I stated that book but haven't finished it - and you have also reminded me (Again!!) to finish OFMD, eeeeeeek!! And yes, the network blows. Cancel! <3

WATCH OFMD!!!

Then slide into my DMs and tell me all of your thoughts and feelings.

Then go to https://www.change.org/p/save-our-flag-means-death and sign the petition, with every email account you own, get Jules to do it, get the cats to do it, get everyone you know to do it.

And then rewatch it again and scream about it to me.

Or, you know, I suppose you could be normal about it.... (Apparently some people are, sounds fake, but OK. Not me though. I write fan fiction about it now Jess... smutty fan fiction... I'm so far gone for this show. 😂)
